Hulls Cove is part of the municipality of Bar Harbor, Maine along with Salisbury Cove, and Town Hill. All, are on Mount Desert Island in Hancock County, just off the southern coast of Trenton, Maine. Route 3 crosses from the mainland, onto Thompson Island, then to Mount Desert Island. Approximately 6 - 7 miles from this point, you will come upon a sweet visual spot on your left. This is the first open ocean view you will see since getting on Mount Desert Island. Bar Harbor is in the distance along with Bar Island, Sheep Porcupine Island, and perhaps a large cruise ship that happens to be visiting.
While here, you may want to take note of a road leading off to the right, or toward the west, called the “Crooked Road.” Locals know that this as a short cut leading to the village of Town Hill and Route 102. This route will take you south to other villages such as Somesville, Southwest Harbor, and Bass Harbor. However, about half way toward Town Hill where Norway Drive intersects Crooked Road is a unique historical structure listed in the National Registry. It is called the Stone Barn Farm. You may like to see this and take a few photos.

Hulls Cove is also the location of the current Acadia National Park Visitor Center. You may want to begin your exploration of the park there. There is a large parking area and the facility has ample publications, activity schedules, and every half hour, a free 15 minute audiovisual program plays.
The Carriage Roads may be accessed at the Visitor Center as well. If you would like to take advantage of free transportation, the Island Explorer Shuttle Bus makes regular (in season) stops at this location, the Bar Harbor Village Green, and many other sights and villages on the island, in Trenton, and in the Schoodic Region.
If you are anxious to get into Bar Harbor, you are almost there. Less than 3 miles ahead is the town center with all of the shops, restaurants, and other businesses.
